It doesn’t matter whether you are planning a wedding on a budget or not, all brides need a little helping hand from time to time, especially when you consider all of the things that need to be sorted out. From the cake to the dress, the groom to the bridesmaids, the venue to the reception – there are so many things that you need to figure out, it can be hard to know where to start. Thankfully, as always, we are here to lend you a hand, and right now, we are going to talk about wedding chairs.
You will find that most wedding venues will already have chairs in mind, but you should be aware that some of the less expensive options may have chairs that aren’t exactly to your tastes. You will find the more expensive options have beautiful upholstered chairs, but the cheaper ones are likely to have folding wooden or plastic chairs, and although you can easily spice them up with some upholstery and decoration, you might want to consider hiring chairs if they do not meet your “standards”

You will often find that hiring chairs, or having custom chairs created for you, will be an expensive option for most, and although you can get exactly the look that you have always dreamed of, it will be another expense to have to bear.
If you have chosen to keep the existing chairs that are in the venue, you have many options open to you when it comes to “sprucing” them up. For example, separately ordered seat cushions can automatically reinvent older wooden style chairs, and even the plastic styles can be accessorized with these cushions and ribbons, bows, flowers, or anything else that matches the theme of your wedding.
Chair slips or covers are another fantastic, (and relatively cheap) method of reinventing older or less expensive styles of chairs, and ideally, you will want to get these so that they match the colors of your table runners and table cloths that you have on the reception tables. You will find that, with a little help from the internet, you can easily find chair covers that match your price range, and even if you cannot find whatever it is you are looking for, you can have custom ones made, either by a professional or someone that knows how to use a sewing machine, for a relatively cheap price. This is even more so the case if you happen to know a fairly cheap place to get your fabrics from.
Of course, if you don’t need the entire chair covered, you could always just go for chair backs, which do exactly what it says on the tin – covers the backs of the chairs. The same applies as with chair slips or covers – you can either have them ordered, or custom made, but it is a good idea to jot down your size requirements first.

Just a few simple tips to help you on your way – when you cover your chairs, go for the simple options. You don’t want to get the bridesmaids dresses interlinked with the chair backs or covers. Also, too many bows, ruffles and accessories will just look tacky, especially if you have ornate table decorations too. Essentially, if the chairs look clean and sophisticated, you are on the right track, and some people will find that no accessories are even needed once the covers are on.
Finally – choose decent materials for your chairs. Spandex is a definite no-no, as is anything with too many sequins or rough textures. You will want your guests to be comfortable, after all. Also, slipper fabrics are probably best avoided, unless you want your mother-in-law to slide on one side of the chair and fall right off the other!
