A lot has been said about benefits of natural ingredients such as olive oil, argan oil, vinegar, lemons and even eggs, but typically we don’t hear much about tomatoes. As it turns out tomatoes have a number of serious skin benefits you don’t want to miss.

Tomatoes against sun damage

First of all, tomatoes contain lycopene – one of the most powerful antioxidants out there. Western people get about 85 percent of their lycopene from tomatoes, which they typically consume in form of tomato paste and ketchup. According to preliminary research, people who consumed a lot of lycopene from tomato paste had considerable increase in sun protection – as much as 30 percent!

Tomato mask against wrinkles

Same ingredient is responsible for wrinkle-fighting properties of tomato. You can prepare your own anti-aging mask at home, you will need:

  • one tomato
  • half a lemon
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

Cut tomato in two halves and remove the seeds. Mash these two pieces with the juice of half a lemon, add 1 Tbsp of olive oil and mix well together. Spread the mixture on your face and keep for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Tomato-lemon mask for enlarged pores

You can improve the appearance of large pores and shrink them a little by preparing this tomato-lemon mask. You will need:

  • one tomato
  • half a lemon

Mash one tomato with the peel of half a lemon. Add a few drops of freshly-squeezed lemon juice, mix well and apply on your face for 15 minutes. You can do this mask once per week.
