Self-hypnosis appears to be another effective tool for weight loss. It helps you lose moderate amounts of weight steadily, which results in safe and lasting weight loss. Combine it with exercise and get even better results!
Self-hypnosis has been successfully used for fighting different kinds of problems and addictions for hundreds of years. Hypnosis was first mentioned by Avicenna (Ibn Sina), a Persian psychologist and physician, in his work called The Book of Healing in 1027. This was the first distinction between sleep and hypnosis. Avicenna explicitly stated that the one could induce the condition upon another person in which he or she would accept the reality of hypnosis.
This doesn’t mean that you can be forced to do things against your will. During hypnosis session you will hear and understand every word and, if it’s something that is against your personal standards, you’ll either reject the suggestion or come out of hypnosis. So, contrary to a popular belief, the one can’t be pushed to commit a crime while in hypnotic state. On another hand, if you are a negative person capable to do something evil by your nature and a suggestion to commit a crime was given to you while you are in a hypnotic state, then it is entirely possible. This is because the definition of hypnosis is simply being open to suggestion. This means that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis! It is your choice – you either accept a suggestion given to you or reject it.
Hypnosis is very effective for fighting different kinds of psychological problems, addictions and eliminating bad habits. In most hypnosis clinics smoking cessation and weight loss account for about 75% of their business. Hypnosis is particularly efficient for weight loss. Although weight loss with hypnosis might be not as fast as some fad diets, it is a safe and gradual way to lose weight.

You must remember that you cannot be hypnotized to do something against your will. Having a desire to lose weight is crucial. Hypnosis is a wonderful tool that helps you achieve your goal, but contrary to a popular belief, it doesn’t work like magic!
You also have to keep in mind that your primary goal is to convince yourself to eat healthy and never to overeat, which will lead to weight loss. With addictions to other substances, such as cigarettes, it is possible and advisable to quit and never come back to using them again. But when we are confronting overeating, we have to change our focus, because eating is something you must do every day to stay alive. So what you will be focusing on is eliminating overeating and eating healthy rather than eliminating eating altogether.
It is extremely important not to label what you are doing as “diet”. Most of the times the word “diet” will cause your conscious mind to rebel and you will crave your comfort foods even more. Instead softly challenge yourself by practicing not to eat your entire plate. Every time you eat, leave a small portion of food on your plate. With the time you will be able to leave more and more food. By this you send yourself a suggestion that you are not overeating anymore.
Another good technique is to pick several foods that are responsible for your extra pounds and abstain from them for a certain period of time, for example a week. Remember, what you are doing is not a diet. You are simply challenging yourself and softly stretching yourself to do more and more.
To use self-hypnosis for weight loss effectively you will need to prepare special scripts that you will be listening to during the day. There are many ready CD scripts you could use for this purpose, but in fact buying them is not necessary. You could prepare your own script by recording your voice on a tape or a CD. The only thing that matters is your openness to suggestion, which is directly proportional to your willingness to lose weight. If you are not willing to lose weight, if you always resist to what your script is suggesting than no hypnotist can help!
Your script should be describing your targeted behavior. For example:
Starting from now on I don’t overeat anymore… I eat healthy well balanced meals only to satisfy my needs… I don’t feel urge to snack between meals… Rich, fatty meals do not appeal to me anymore… I don’t stuff myself with food because I want to feel healthy, energetic and vigorous… I am in complete control of my eating habits…

Choose your own words, repetition is good. Your script should be at least a few minutes long. Describe your desired behaviors in terms that stretch your current habits but do not sound unbelievable to you. If it is something you can’t believe your mind will rebel against it and it will have no effect. Instead stretch yourself gradually. As you notice an improvement, push yourself a little further with a new script.
Record your voice on a tape or CD. You could record it on your iPod and listen to it many times a day. Ideally you should be listening to it when in a relaxed state, but it helps even more if you have a habit of listening it even while you are performing your daily tasks.
As it was mentioned earlier you can achieve a moderate weight loss of around four to eight pounds by solely using self-hypnosis. If you combine it with increased physical exercise your results will be even better. Now when you have experience in creating your own self-hypnosis scripts, you could create another one that will help you become more active!
