When it comes to hair, you can never be too cautious. With the amount of blow-drying, straightening, coloring, and styling that us ladies love to do to our hair, we are quite literally torturing it, which is why it makes sense to put the perfect product on your hair to combat the problems that you are faced with.
These days, with better understanding of hair by scientists, plus more ingredients at our disposal, there are more products on the market than ever before. This in turn means that there is absolutely no excuse for bad hair. Sliding away from superficial remedies, these hair products actually nourish our hair from the inside out, meaning that although the conditioners that we use may not actually repair the damage that you have put your hair through, they can protect it from further damage as well as avoiding such problems as static and electricity, increasing shine, making the hair stronger, and even providing a certain amount of protecting against the powerful UV rays of the sun.

Of course, it makes sense to choose the perfect product for the problem that you have with your hair, which is why we have broken the information down into an easy to read set of guidelines that will make your life much easier!
We shall start with the most obvious problem – SPLIT ENDS. It doesn’t matter what kind of conditioner you buy, there is nothing out there that is going to un-do the damage that you already have found on your hair. However, this is not to say that you cannot make the future of your hair a much healthier one. There are certain types of conditioners out there that will help to fuse the ends of your hair back together, in a glued kind of way if you will, which means that the split ends won’t even be visible underneath the powerful zoom of a magnifying glass! There are a few ingredients that you should be on the lookout for:
- Dimethicone – this is a compound made from silicone
- Hydrolyzed proteins
- Hydrolyzed keratin proteins
The only problem with these ingredients is that they will need to be used on a regular basis, so if you decide to wash your hair without a product that contains them, you will notice that the split ends will have returned as you will have essentially washed the glue out.
WEAK AND DAMAGED HAIR will also need the hydrolyzed proteins and keratin proteins that we mentioned in the ingredients for split ends. These actually help to penetrate the hair in such a way that nourishment is provided to the core of the hair, right through to the outside and ends of the strands. Again, Dimethicone is another ingredient that will massively help, making your hair stronger against further damage that you will cause the hair. Alongside these, keep your eyes out for:
- Vitamin B5, otherwise known as Panthenol
- Silk proteins
- Collagen

These will retain moisture within the hair, as well as providing much need fusing compounds.
If you want to INCREASE SHINE in your hair, you should look for things such as film-forming polymer agents, which you may find under the name methacrylate derivatives. These help because they keep the scales within the cuticles of the hair lay flat, making them appear much flatter and glossier.
For hair that has become SUN DAMAGED, you are going to want to protect your hair from further sun damage by looking for products that contain sunscreen and protection against the powerful UV rays, as well as looking for leave-in products that contain zinc oxides. The hair can become damaged in much the same way as the skin can become damaged when exposed to the sun, so you will often notice that it becomes dry, brittle, suffering with split ends, and may even change color, especially if you dye your hair often.
If you have THIN AND FINE HAIR, you are going to want to look for things that promise volume, and although you shouldn’t believe everything you read on the bottles that you see on the shelves, you should use specific products that have been created for such a hair type. You don’t even have to buy specific products however. Many people believe that conditioner doesn’t assist with fine and thin hair, but when used only on the ends, you will find that the products that you are already using can be used to help.
If you have FLYWAY HAIR, it can be a real pain, especially if you want to achieve some of the glossier, modern, celebrity style hair styles and up-do’s. However, help is at hand, especially if you look for products that are designed for such a hair type. Look for quaternary ammonium or compounds of this on the label of the product. It will help to avoid the flyaway and static ends, meaning that your style will look much more polished, and when you combine this with serums, as well as avoiding brushing so often, you can effectively avoid flyaway hair!
