Green Tea for Weight Loss: Reap the Benefits!

Multiple studies proved that replacing other beverages with green tea can result in weight loss of several pounds over two months period. However, you have to keep in mind that you will need to consume at least 4 cups of green tea a day to achieve any substantial weight loss.

This effect is explained by the fact that green tea boosts metabolic rate and elevates adrenaline levels which keeps you more energetic. So you are not only burning calories faster, you are also more likely to exercise.

Another study where participants were eating limited calorie diet while taking green tea extract demonstrated that those who took green tea extract achieved more than triple the weight loss of another group who only limited their calorie intake.

Green tea is rich in catechins – an antioxidant that was credited for its diverse pharmacological activity. Catechins are also found in black tea, but green tea is the highest in catechins and therefore more potent. Green tea is not only beneficial for weight loss; it also acts as antibiotic, anti-ulcer agent, artery protector, cavity fighter, anti-viral agent, analgesic and mild sedative.

Highly popular in Asian countries, green tea is deemed to be a factor of lower cancer rates in East Asian countries, as well as differences in body type between Westerns and East Asians. Green tea makes only one percent of all tea sold in US, but it becomes more and more popular due to increased awareness of its health and weight loss benefits. You may find it in Asian markets, specialty food stores and some supermarkets. It is also served in Asian restaurants.
