Aghrrrrrrrr, hair problems! It feels like by the time you are 35 your hair problems can be classified into three main categories:
- too little hair
- too much hair in the wrong place
Some psychologists say that women tend to obsess about their hair more than any other feature of their appearance. And as if it needed a confirmation the scientists made a research and yes, it turns out that hair loss has a negative influence on the quality of life on the majority of affected women! Here is the link to scientific study (just in case you have doubts).
In your teens and early twenties (when you couldn’t care less) your hair is great no matter how you treat it. It is exactly where you want it to be (on your head that is), looks fantastic and causes you no troubles. About the time you are 28 things begin to change and after a few short years these changes become obvious – your hair is dry, flyaway, breaks off and thins out.
Why your hair ages
We don’t usually give it much thought, but hair ages the same way your skin does. The main causes of hair aging are the same things that cause issues with your skin – heat, sun, quality of water, bad diet and pollution. To make matters worse, the hairs themselves become thinner and weaker as you age. You end up with thinner and weaker hair. This doesn’t look like a pretty picture, but one thing we know for sure – worrying about it is not going to make you more attractive. So let’s deal with our problem and make the most of what we have!
Choosing the right products
Fortunately there are many great products that do wonders even to thin hair. All you need to do is to educate yourself a little and pick the right product.
Shampoo for thin hair
It’s very important to read labels and pick a shampoo that is specially formulated for thin hair. These will typically contain thickening agents to give your hair an optimal look. Nioxin brand works especially well. This brand was founded by a woman who experienced thinning hair after the birth of her first child in 1987. She started to investigate the ideas of treating the scalp with skincare methods and guess what – she succeeded! Instead of hiding under the rock and crying she actually found a solution for herself and millions of other women, making tons of money in the process. Now this is a power of positive attitude!

You might think that using a conditioner will make your hair look even thinner but skipping hair conditioners altogether will deprive your poor hair of some very useful stuff. Instead, look for a conditioner made especially for fine, thin hair and use it sparingly and only on the ends.

How to thicken thin hair: volumizers
Volumizers can make thin hair appear thicker and full of body. There are two types of volumizers:
- volumizers that add thickness by depositing chemicals on the outside of the hair shaft
- volumizers containing active agents that penetrate the cuticle, causing the hair to expand and gain volume
Ingredients that work within the hair shaft contain collagen and keratin, but you may need to experiment with different volumizers to find the one that work best with your hair. Volumizers containing algae are especially good at lifting the hair away from the head and adding the body.
