As weird as it sounds most women don’t realize that the skin on their lips is the thinnest and the most fragile skin on their bodies. Despite this rather obvious fact, they tend to ignore their lips and concentrate on their eyes, skin and other components of makeup. What you need to understand is that your lips are incredibly fragile and need everyday attention.
This is not just a makeup thing. Your lips have no defense against UV rays and are a vulnerable spot for skin cancers. At all times, you should wear sunscreen lip balm
, or at the very least, lipstick with SPF 15. Once again, it’s not only about good looks. It’s about your health.
Repairing dry chapped lips
If you already have dry chapped lips, you might have hard time wearing lipstick. To fix this, prepare your lips by exfoliating. You can use ready-made lip scrubs or prepare your own scrub at home. Brown sugar and honey works particularly well. Once you are done, apply a waxy balm on your lips before lipstick. This will make application and will give you a better finish.
Another important thing to remember is that constantly licking your lips will make them drier. I know, this is very counterintuitive, because that’s exactly what you want to do when you have dry lips.
Lipstick Tips
A lot of lip makeup advice sounds confusing. There are experts who’ll tell you you should always use gloss and that real lipstick makes you look older. At the same time we see these fantastic photos of models wearing glossy reds – this looks so luxurious, so we can’t help but want the same.
I think the reality is that it’s a matter of personal preference. If you care for your lips and know how to apply lipstick correctly, it will look great, often much better than gloss, in fact. If you go for dark intensive color, make sure to tone down your blush. Intense colors in both areas usually will not look right. An additional bonus to wearing dark lipstick is that your teeth will naturally seem whiter.
If you aren’t exactly a pro when it comes to applying lipstick use chubby lip sticks. This makes lipstick application much easier and the end result will look much more professional.
