Most women have been there. You love that perfect eye shadow or than wonderful lipstick, or even worse, that eyeliner you got during your trip last year. You love every single thing about it – color, texture, everything. Although that lipstick is no more than a nub right now, you are confident you can’t find a replacement anywhere else. It’s something unique. Oh yeah, they actually don’t manufacture it anymore!
Makeup cases help you keep it all clean and organized.
According to one survey, 66 percent of women use expired makeup and they know it. Other 49 percent never look at expiry date on the packaging. The problem is that expired makeup quickly becomes a breeding ground for bacteria – something you don’t want to put on your face, especially on your eyes.Mascara and liquid eyeliners should be kept no more than three to four months. Foundation can stay up to two years, but if you are seeing any change in color throw it away immediately. Eye shadow and liners – not more than three months. Lipstick can last up to two years, unless it changed its color and texture.
Anything liquid is more likely to draw bacteria and needs extra care. Dry products, such as powder, can last longer, but if they are stored in a humid place, like steamy bathroom, the risk is considerably higher. Look for capital “M” on the packaging, it stands for number of months you should use the product after it was opened.
Another embarrassing mistake some women do is neglecting to clean their makeup. I find that I need to clean my makeup case at least once every two weeks. If I wait any longer it starts to look nasty. It doesn’t matter that you prefer only luxurious brands, it will look horrific anyway. Uncovered dull pencils, old sharpeners, dirty makeup sponges, old mascaras, bad looking brushes… You get the picture. Some of it just looks messy, but things like dirty brushes, old sharpeners or open liquids can transfer bacteria to your face, increasing the risk of infection or irritation.
Do not hoard your old makeup. It’s really dangerous and isn’t worth it by any means.
