Some women complain about their big or “fat” ankles, also known as cankles. The problem can be quite frustrating because you don’t have to be overweight to suffer from this issue.
While being overweight will definitely make your ankles proportionally larger, extra weight doesn’t necessarily mean cankles. In fact, there are many overweight women who don’t have this problem.
What causes cankles?
Thick ankles can be caused by a number of factors, including genetics. If this is your natural shape, there is little you can do besides embracing your body and making it work for you. However, cankles can be caused by medical causes. For example, you could check for water retention issues. If your cankles were caused by water retention, taking an appropriate treatment will fix the problem.
Make your ankles work
You can improve the appearance of your ankles by losing extra weight, if any, and toning muscles in your lower leg. Exercises to consider: swimming, running, any type of cardio exercises.
You can do standing calf raises to shape your calf and add definition. Single calf raises will make your workout more intensive (please watch the video).
