in Face & Body
There are so many anti-aging programs out there, but nothing will work unless combined with a lifestyle that promotes skin health and youth. Here are some important principles you should keep in mind in order to enhance the look of your skin and maximize the anti-aging effect of the program of your choice.
Healthy Skin
The most important task of your skin is to protect the body from the impact of environment, i.e. skin serves as a barrier to protect the body against excessive moisture loss and dehydration. Another important function of skin is to keep irritants, toxins, and invaders such as bacteria, fungi, and yeasts out. If your skin is not healthy, it won’t be able to accomplish these important tasks effectively. Therefore, any health issues that your skin might have should be addressed first.

Adequate Water Supply
Everything done for the skin is directed towards boosting its water supply. While it is not considered a nutrient, water is essential for bodily functioning and is a natural preventive against wrinkles. Fine lines and wrinkles are the results of moisture loss. When the moisture loss becomes severe, your skin becomes dry and flaky. Water helps hydrate skin from the inside out.
Keep in mind that coffee and tea do not count, because they have a diuretic action causing you lose even more water. For every cup of coffee or tea you need to have an additional glass of pure water to make up for increased moisture loss.
Damage Repair
You need to repair any damage that occurred as a result of external (such as excessive sun exposure, smoking, and pollution) and internal (such as hormonal imbalances) insults on a daily basis. You can find more information about it inThe Factors of Skin Aging, and some solutions in Cosmetic Procedures articles of this website (Skin Care).
Protection from Environmental Injuries
You must make sure your skin is not damaged even further by excessive sun exposure, cigarette smoke, stress and other damaging factors. Protect your skin from sun, quit smoking, find a way to reduce stress (see Effects of Stress on Skin Aging).
All-Inclusive Anti-Aging Program
Add an all-inclusive anti-aging program rich in ingredients that target all the causes of aging, not just one. It should include anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, moisturizers, collagen-builders and protectors. When you include a variety of ingredients that target different problems, your chances to repair and rejuvenate the skin are much higher than by using only one ingredient.
