Ambitious men may seem strong and willful and they are to some extend, however, very often there is an underling insecurity that makes them want to prove themselves.
These types could be men who are not particularly tall and feel insecure about it. Or they could have speech defect, or some other defect they secretly obsess about. It could be even some imaginary defect that in reality does not exist, but the point is that this insecurity is giving them great amount of energy to push forward and prove themselves, their manliness, their strength, their worth, their whatever to you and the world in a number of different ways.
Moreover, this type of men will never admit their problem. If you hint on it, they will readily dismiss it. Indeed, while some of them are smart enough to have a degree of reserve, some others may even emphasize and exaggerate their good looks, which makes them seem ridiculous.
However, the best way to identify Ambitious Men is to look at their achievements. No matter how plain and unsophisticated they may seem, you will find that they achieved a lot. In fact, coming from lower social class is often another reason why they feel insecure. In short, Ambitious Men possess great amounts of energy that help them to move away from pain of their own complexes, fears and insecurities. Power and control are their real passion.
So now you know that behind tough guy mask, there is a weak and fragile spirit. This kind of men is very emotional, but they tend to lock up their emotions for not letting others to crack their code. Sooner or later, however, they will betray themself. Their emotions will come in outburst, like steam out of the pressure-cooker.
What Ambitious Men enjoy in their relationships with women is a good chase. This is especially true if they already achieved many things in other areas of their lives and find themselves restless and bored. A woman who is too easy will be discarded pretty quickly (often right after she was used). Unlike Noble Knight types, these types will be blown away by an independent, self-sufficient woman. To tame her, to make her docile and obedient is another exciting task. This is exactly where they lose.
While he is dreaming of making her dependent on him, having her cook his dinners and roll his socks in balls, he doesn't realize that now he is thinking of her all the time. As long as she stays independent, as long as he doesn't feel he's got her, he is hopelessly trapped. If you want to appeal to Ambitious Men you need to make them feel that for every step forward they are thrown two steps back. You must seem slightly detached, being into something else - in short, having your own happy life without him. Giving them what they want will only make them lose their interest.

This way you challenge their vanity and give them another chance to prove themselves - something that they secretly enjoy. Playing hot and cold creates an exciting pattern of hope and despair - very much needed ingredients for real passion.
Long term, if you are a really independent and self-sufficient woman who is good at playing hard to get you will be very happy.
